Happy Halloween! 🎃
I’ll use this post to share some of my spooky pixel art drawings and animations, with a brief description.
Hopping Jiangshi
My first drawing shows a Jiangshi hopping inside a polaroid frame.

Jiangshi description from Wikipedia:
“A jiāngshī, also known as a Chinese hopping vampire, is a type of undead creature or reanimated corpse in Chinese legends and folklore. Due to the influence of Hong Kong cinema, it is typically depicted in modern popular culture as a stiff corpse dressed in official garments from the Qing dynasty”.
Witch
A witch riding a broom across a moon background.

Witchcraft description from Wikipedia:
“Witchcraft is the use of alleged supernatural powers of magic. A witch is a practitioner of witchcraft. Traditionally, ‘witchcraft’ means the use of magic or supernatural powers to inflict harm or misfortune on others, and this remains the most common and widespread meaning”.
Pumpkin house
A pumpkin house in the woods.

Pumpkin description from Wikipedia:
“A pumpkin is a cultivated winter squash in the genus Cucurbita. The term pumpkin is most commonly applied to round, orange-colored squash varieties”.
“The use of the word ‘pumpkin’ is thought to have originated in New England in North America, derived from a word for melon, or a native word for round. The term is sometimes used interchangeably with ‘squash’ or ‘winter squash’”.
Emoji
Some fun pumpkin emojis.

Emoji description from Wikipedia:
“Originally meaning pictograph, the word emoji comes from Japanese ‘e’ (絵, ‘picture’) + ‘moji’ (文字, ‘character’); the resemblance to the English words emotion and emoticon is purely coincidental. The first emoji sets were created by Japanese portable electronic device companies in the late 1980s and the 1990s”.
Spooky ghost
A spooky ghost emerges from behind a pumpkin.

Ghost description from Wikipedia:
“In folklore, a ghost is the soul or spirit of a dead person or non-human animal that is believed to be able to appear to the living. In ghostlore, descriptions of ghosts vary widely, from an invisible presence to translucent or barely visible wispy shapes to realistic, lifelike forms.
The deliberate attempt to contact the spirit of a deceased person is known as necromancy, or in spiritism as a séance. Other terms associated with it are apparition, haunt, haint, phantom, poltergeist, shade, specter, spirit, spook, wraith, demon, and ghoul”.
Night of the living pumpkins
A fun, pretend movie scene. With a man holding a flashlight in a graveyard, only to find out he is surrounded by pumpkin zombies.

Zombie description from Wikipedia:
“A zombie is a mythological undead corporeal revenant created through the reanimation of a corpse. In modern popular culture, zombies are most commonly found in horror genre works.
The term comes from Haitian folklore, in which a zombie is a dead body reanimated through various methods, most commonly magical practices in religions like Vodou. Modern media depictions of the reanimation of the dead often do not involve magic but rather science fictional methods such as fungi, radiation, gases, diseases, plants, bacteria, viruses, etc”.
Haunted television
A haunted television provokes the question: “Are you watching it, or is it watching you?”

Evil eye description from Wikipedia:
“The evil eye is a supernatural belief in a curse brought about by a malevolent glare, usually inspired by envy. Amulets to protect against it have been found dating to around 5,000 years ago”.
One bit crypt
A one bit crypt and background made using only two colours.

Binary image description from Wikipedia:
“A binary image is a digital image that consists of pixels that can have one of exactly two colors, usually black and white. Each pixel is stored as a single bit — i.e. either a 0 or 1”.
